The acceptance of deportees after a “Third-Country Removal Agreement” speaks to a moral compromise where financial or geopolitical incentives overshadow basic human rights obligations.
We can examine the practice of International law under its two philosophies: (a) where it overrides local law (b) where they exist in completely separate spheres. We can read the 1951 refugee convention address. We can talk of the hypocrisy of America being ‘Champions’ of Democracy which they claim to export.
And we come away with America’s big stick bullyism.
It enforces the inversion of its own laws on vulnerable countries with compromised leaders. The resulting acquiescence gives way to claims that “the weak country was happy to oblige.”
The sum total of the preceding is founded on the Monroe Doctrine of 1823 and subsequent reference to America’s neighbors as its ‘Back Yard’.
Trump’s show of neighborliness came with the assertion of ‘toxic masculinity’ and ‘warrior ethos’ with which he branded his ‘Donroe Doctrine’ – short for Donald – in a scalding application of his rapacious tendencies.
Its goal for US Absolute Dominance withholds – from countries like Guyana – institutional aid, economic development and law enforcement training in exchange for their meek compliance.
Halting Russian and Chinese economic aid is demanded. With China so heavily embedded into Guyana’s infrastructure for several life spans, the practicality of this is unknown.
Then there’s the oil thing.
The extrication of Venezuela’s Maduro was Trump’s show of overwhelming power to fearmonger. America’s laws carry ‘extra-territoriality powers’ which do not work in reverse. They can deem you an enemy of their State solely on their law and one of their courts finding in their favor.
They can remove you from your country to theirs because of might not right. And to demonstrate its unmitigated might, America’s signed a current oil agreement that satisfies money owed to American company, Chevron, incurred during the reign of Hugo Chavez…13 years after his death.
Some might argue that was one of Trump’s agreements with his financial donors. The use of the US military to exact a pound of flesh for a fee, is frowned upon. Of course, we don’t know.
What we read is that Trump’s planned invasion linked him to oil tycoon Alejandro Betancourt Lopez. Lopez was primary target of America’s Department of Justice (DOJ) for money laundering and corruption. He became a secret intermediary during the Maduro pursuit.
After the successful extradition of Maduro and wife, the Trump DOJ quietly closed the case against Lopez. Trump then partnered with Lopez’ company, North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP) – the same criminal and criminal enterprise once sanctioned by America’s DOJ.
The Pentagon Office was given US military 35% corporate equity stake in NABEP, for free. The U.S. Department of State gets a guaranteed right to buy 20% of NABEP oil at raw production cost.
That’s all we know…that and the fact that the deal stinks to high heaven of self dealing and violations of several laws, per reports.

Indeed, PM Motley was not invited. That’s because her governing principles precede her…is the general opinion.
As a common sense operator, she knows the depth of China’s involvement and investment in her country was predicated upon agreements to align with China’s geopolitical and economic goals….the Belt and Road and whatever initiative they peddle it under.
Refusing to “purge China’s influence” to be a part of Trump’s Shield of Americas preserved several economic relations, not the least of which would have been foreclosure on loans and other repayment promises. Might we add she is an adamant opponent to regional militarization.
We’d say, too, he, Trump is intimidated by intelligent women capable of articulating face to face, thinking on their feet and not dependent on talking points and answers from staff, provided mid conversation on 3×5 index cards. But, that may be outside of journalistic purview.
Ali’s attendance, thereby, registering Guyana’s membership, has all of the preceding overtones of the Bettancourt Lopez entanglement.
We’ll add, if protection from Venezuelan aggression was part of the calculus, it’s now international knowledge that America’s munitions are in deficit .
The fate of Ukraine, which gave up its nuclear arsenal for pledged American/NATO protection in 1994, can be Guyana’s with Trump and a similarly indecent successor at the ‘Shield’s’ helm. Guyana’s abundance of oil and its operators are just as reachable as those constituents were in the oil tycoon Alejandro Betancourt Lopez circle…is the opinion.
And with this as the foundation for neighborly relations between America and Guyana, we’ll look at the off-shoring of America’s unwanted human beings declared the ‘worst of the worst’ by its first criminally indicted President yet, fit for ‘backyard’ residence in ‘Oh Beautiful’ Guyana.
From international news, we read Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud’s litany of contradictions of Guyana “hosting” six foreigners “kicked” out of the USA for Immigration primarily – he didn’t say strictly – issues. “The ‘arrangement’ will run for a year”. This came, says Persaud, after months of negotiation.
Hosting six foreigners kicked out of America primarily for immigration under an arrangement that will run for a year violates the surgical precision of diplomatic communication, as a rule.
The six unfortunates from Cuba and Afghanistan, were sent to Guyana. Guyana is the size of Kansas. Side by side, Kansas has less
murders and more prisons.
We’re thinking, on that calculus alone, Kansas would have been a more feasible recipient of America’s violation of its own refugee convention laws…especially for a period suspended in the terminology of “duration will run for one year”…and not an end date specific.
So much for the ‘commonsense’ diplomacy pledge.
We’ve checked the Guyana Chronicle the National News Paper. We found no Government announcement, no information, no notification to Guyanese that America’s ‘worst of the worst’ are now amongst them.
The only thing worse than all that is the absence of any announcement from the Opposition–expressly Team PNC –with its seasoned complement of Opposition tenure and legal and political expertise in its ranks.
Its current record of under -service is not only a reflection of poor leadership but the willingness of its Parliamentary members to be led poorly.
The question, now, is if these Norton -led APNU politicians really want to serve the nation as Opposition elements and how they intend to do so under current leadership which is respected by neither peers nor newcomers.
That runway is getting both short and narrow…as is its commitment to pretending that its Party is a viable entity, while it remains under leadership that was uniformly rejected in immediate past elections.
The electorate has to evaluate which is worse – a poor leader or politicians who prefer to be led poorly as an excuse for their own poor performance.
Unfairly and because of that, the entire Partnership for National Unity remains, since its 2025 rejection and replacement, politically neutered and ineffective at appealing at a national level…because of the glaring absence of acumen and platform.
And lost in there is the legacy of the PNC, abdicated by those who claim(ed) allegiance, in exchange for a dimming spotlight and a fleeting, rapidly fading moment of political relevance.
