Marielle Franco, thirty eight year old Black Brazilian Councilwoman, known for her fierce fight for women’s rights, opportunities for favela dwellers and the recognition of the LGBTQ community in Brazil, died in a hail of bullets on March 14th 2018, as she left a rally in Rio de Janiero.
Her murder follows the “federal intervention” imposed by President Temer a few weeks ago which resulted in the army being placed in charge of Rio’s Police.
As Amnesty International demands an investigation, the murder continues to be condemned by the international community.
